Connectionist solutions for energy management systems

In this paper a schematic survey on main tasks dealing with pow er system management has been accomplished. Each task has been de ned and studied from a neural perspective. Moreover, a represen tativ e but non exhaustive analysis of recent reported works in the eld is presented. Constitutive elements of a pow er system, such as generators, buses, lines, breakers, as w ell as most relevant magnitudes such as load, injection, activ e and reactive power ow, voltage and current, are introduced. The tasks which have been analyzed are Load Forecasting, Alarm Processing, Fault Diagnosis, State Estimation including Observabilit y Analysis and Topology Assessment, Securit y Analysis, emphasizing Contingency and Transien t Stabilit y Analysis, and Operational Planning, including Expansion Planning, Unit Commitment and Eco-
